​ Creation of the Committee 


On April 11, 2019, Governor Tony Evers signed Executive Order 19​ creating the Committee to Celebrate the Centennial of Wisconsin's Ratificati​on of the 19th Amendment, appointing First Lady Kathy Evers, Chair, and specifying Wisconsin's women in elected and appointed state office and other experts to carry out the work of the committee.

​The Committee shall sunset on September 30, 2020.


 Work of the Committee 


  • ​Educate the public on the historical importance of ratification of ​the 19th Amendment and Wisconsin's role in the fight for women's suffrage.

  • ​Plan and prepare educational activities and an educational toolkit for teachers and students across Wisconsin to learn more about the suffrage movement and the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

  • Plan an event celebrating Wisconsin becoming the first state to ratify the 19th Amendment.​

  • Engage the public across Wisconsin in the celebration.

  • Coordin​​​​ate and promote related activities across the state.

  • Ensure that the education components, events, and celebration of Wisconsin ratifying the 19th Amendment ackowledge that the 19th Amendment did not guarantee the right for all women to vote.​
